Obsidian + mud pots = fault line!

The photos below were taken on our Secrets of the Salton Sea Tour. The top photo is obsidian which is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. Native Americans used obsidian to make arrowheads because it is strong and sharp. The bottom photo is of the mud volcanoes which are created from carbon dioxide gases being released from the fault. The gases were created from ancient lake Cahuilla!
