This story has a happy ending!
The photo below was take on our Joshua Tree Adventure Tour. It is a Gopher Snake constricting a White-tailed Antelope Squirrel. After the photo was shot, that is when it got interesting. You can see the white tail in the middle of the photo. That tail is used to warn all the other White-tailed Antelope Squirrels of impending danger. It worked! Several White-tailed Antelope Squirrels came to the rescue. They started taunting the Gopher Snake and began biting it. Well after a few minutes of that, the snake had enough. It let go of the little squirrel and it ran off into the bush with its buddies. The Guide, Bruce Dodd, said the snake looked like it had just eaten so that may be the reason the little guy got away. The snake was simply not hungry enough to put up with all the hassle. Alls well that ends well...at least for the squirrel!

I don't think the snake was hungry!
The little squirrel would not have been
enough food for him to digest!
